Commissions

A bespoke hand made and ethical item is the perfect gift for special events, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, christenings, as a personal treat or even to say 'thank you'.

Fine Cell Work has over 15 years' experience producing high quality special commissions. As each of our pieces are individually hand-made, we are able to make any variation or personalisation on a product that you see on the shop section of the website, or make something completely different at your request.

Customise a gift

Some gift items in our shop already have an option to customise with names, dates or a short message. Our Owl and Pussycat embroidered wallhanging adds a personal touch to any room. The Heart and Birds cushion is a perfect choice to mark a wedding or anniversary. This custom work usually takes about a month. Please enquire if you have a deadline.

We can also embroider a special message or dedication on the reverse of a cushion or adapt the colourway or design to your specifications.

Something unique

If you have something else in mind, we can make almost anything that is stitched by hand, including quilts, firescreens, business logos, family crests and photographs.

We have worked with a number of interior designers to produce original items made to their own specifications. Past clients include John Stefanidis, Kit Kemp, Ashley Hicks, Melissa Wyndham, Chester Jones, Precious McBane and many others. Special commissions with more bespoke details may take upwards of 3 months for the meticulous workmanship to be completed. Please enquire for a more accurate timescale.

Public commissions, ecclesiastical, heritage or art works

Fine Cell Work is the perfect choice for high quality, British-made commissioned pieces at competitive rates. We have had an integral role in several high profile projects.

In 2014 we were commissioned by artist Cornelia Parker to produce 65 embroidered panels for her acclaimed work commemorating the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. The massive project is a hand embroidered replica of the Wikipedia entry on the Magna Carta itself. Our stitchers produced the vast majority of the  text and several officials and celebrities contributed words and phrases. Read more about 'Magna Carta (An Embroidery)' on our website and on wikipedia.

Fine Cell Work has also completed a number of large scale kneeler projects for churches across the UK and in the US. These types of projects are equally rewarding for prisoners and the church alike. Members of the congregation respond positively to the unique social mission of Fine Cell Work which they can fundraise for, alongside the opportunity to give a new lease of life to a church interior.
